How to Restore Hormonal Imbalances

Regulating hormones can be an arduous task. Hormones can become imbalanced due to the most minor of changes. Diseases that weaken the immune system, lack of sleep, modified eating habits or a change in dosage of birth control are a few things that can cause hormonal irregularities.

Visit your doctor for a full examination. Let them know of any symptoms you may be experiencing. Your doctor will determine any tests you may need to establish causes of hormonal imbalance. Diabetes, ovarian disorders, pregnancy, and impaired adrenal and thyroid glands can all be the source of hormonal changes. Once the doctor has ascertained the cause, a treatment program can begin.

Use hormone therapy. These medications will either produce hormones in those who do not produce enough or balance the hormones in those who produce too much. Hormone therapies can sometimes cause side effects. If you have any feelings of nausea, dizziness, fatigue or dry skin tell your doctor immediately.

Regulate hormones with birth control pills if you are female. This will allow you to always know when your menstrual cycle will occur. This is not the best option for women over 35 who smoke. The likelihood of heart attack and stroke increases immensely while on the the pill. Be aware that stopping the pill, resuming the pill or changing your method of birth control can greatly affect hormone levels.

Make behavioral modifications. These include sleeping at least seven to eight hours a night, getting regular exercise and eating at consistent meal times. Sometimes, things like fatigue, lack of exercise and an irregular diet can cause hormones to be out of whack.
