Why do you feel fat and am on your period?

1. Water retention:

During your period, your body's levels of the hormone progesterone rise. This can lead to fluid retention, which can make you feel bloated and puffy.

2. Hormonal changes:

Oestrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate during the menstrual cycle and these hormones can affect appetite, metabolism and water retention.

3. Increased food cravings:

Many people experience increased cravings for certain foods during their period. This is often due to hormonal changes that affect appetite and mood.

4.Changes in bowel habits:

Some people experience constipation or diarrhoea during their period, which can lead to feelings of discomfort and bloating.

5. Fatigue and lack of exercise:

During menstruation, many people experience fatigue and decreased energy levels. This can make it difficult to exercise, which can further contribute to weight gain and feelings of being overweight.

It's important to remember that feeling fat during your period is a common experience and that it's temporary. Try to focus on healthy eating and regular exercise throughout your cycle to help manage these feelings. If you're experiencing significant weight gain or other concerning symptoms, talk to your doctor.
