What hormones are responsible for maintaining a healthy uterine lining?

Estrogen and progesterone are the two hormones primarily responsible for maintaining a healthy uterine lining. These hormones are produced by the ovaries and work together to regulate the changes that occur in the uterus during the menstrual cycle.

Estrogen is responsible for the proliferation (growth) of the uterine lining. It does this by stimulating the cells in the lining to divide and multiply. Estrogen also causes the uterine lining to thicken and become more vascularized (supplied with blood vessels).

Progesterone works together with estrogen to maintain the uterine lining. It does this by preventing the lining from breaking down and shedding. Progesterone also helps to create a favorable environment for the implantation of a fertilized egg.

The levels of estrogen and progesterone fluctuate during the menstrual cycle. These changes are responsible for the different phases of the cycle, including menstruation, the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase.
