What is a lypocyte?

A lypocyte also known as a fat cell or adipocyte is a cell that stores fat in the body. Fat cells are found in all animals, including humans. Lipids, which are a type of fat, constitute about 85% of the weight of a fat cell. The lipid that is abundant in fat cells is called a triglyceride. Triglycerides are composed of three fatty acid molecules that are attached to a glycerol molecule. Fat cells are located in various parts of the body, including under the skin, around organs, and in bone marrow. The body uses fat cells to store energy, regulate body temperature, and protect organs and tissues.
