Low Blood Sugar Remedy
Low blood sugar, also known as hypoglycemia, is caused by an imbalance of glucose levels in the bloodstream and is the opposite of diabetes. Fortunately, there are several home remedies that will raise low blood sugar.-
Symptoms
-
Symptoms of low blood sugar include sweating, trembling, nausea, irritability, heart palpitations and numbness. Additionally, cravings for starches and sweets between meals may indicate low blood sugar. When hypoglycemia strikes, the adrenal glands, liver and/or pituitary glands don't work properly and can't process sugar, so as blood sugar drops, symptoms increase.
Remedies
-
The first step to raise blood sugar is to ingest one heaping teaspoon of sugar. Longer-term treatments include a daily intake of vitamins C, E and B complexes, as well as eating a healthy diet. Recommended daily doses are: 2,000 to 5,000 milligrams of vitamin C; 1,600 IU of vitamin E; and 50 milligrams of vitamin B6.
Eating two small apples with peels after meals will help control blood sugar levels, as will ingesting molasses.
It is important to change dietary habits to control low blood sugar and include foods such as raw seeds, nuts and cooked grains. The seeds and nuts provide protein and the cooked grains release slowly into the blood stream, thereby controlling blood sugars for a longer period.
Avoid processed foods such as white flour, refined sugars, white pasta, carbonated drinks, coffee and commercially cooked foods like hamburgers and fries.
Home-cooked meals made with wheat flour, wheat pasta and wheat bread are good alternatives, and sweet potatoes are substitutions for white potatoes.
Eat six to eight small meals a day instead of three large meals. Examples are peanut butter, crackers and milk, apples and celery with fruit juice, whole-grain cereals with a slice of apple and sunflower or pumpkins seeds.
Additional Considerations
-
Exercise and weight loss can help control blood sugars, as well, by releasing stress and tension. Nonetheless, it is important to visit a physician for regular checkups and to keep a close monitor on blood sugar levels.
