How to Regulate Blood Glucose in Men
Men should keep blood glucose levels within a relatively narrow range at all times. This normally happens simply by eating regular healthful meals, but some medical conditions, especially diabetes, require you to actively manage blood glucose levels. Diabetes is a collection of metabolic disorders that result in insufficient production of insulin, a hormone that reduces the blood glucose level. There are a number of steps you can take to raise or lower your blood glucose level.Things You'll Need

1
Measure the blood glucose level with a home test kit. These kits make it possible for diabetics to test their own blood sugar at home. Typically, a spring-loaded lancet will draw a drop of blood automatically, which is then placed onto a plastic strip that determines the amount of glucose in the blood. Diabetics should test their blood glucose levels at least once a day and a doctor may recommend testing several times per day.

2
Determine high blood glucose levels. High blood glucose (hypoglycemia) is generally considered to be more than 180 milligrams of glucose per deciliter of blood (mg/dL) two hours after a meal. This level is only a general guideline and may differ with each patient.

3
Treat hyperglycemia by eating smaller meals and reducing the amount of sugar in the diet. It may also be helpful to increase your intake of dietary fiber; aerobic exercise should also lower the blood glucose level. Diabetics may need to inject insulin to reduce the blood glucose level quickly.

4
Determine low blood glucose levels. Low blood glucose (hypoglycemia) is less than 90 mg/dL glucose before a meal. This level is only a general guideline and may differ with each patient.

5
Treat hypoglycemia by eating some form of simple sugar, such as candy, fruit juice or glucose tablets. Blood sugar levels drop between meals so diabetics may need to eat more often than other people. It may also be necessary to raise the blood sugar level in an emergency by injecting glucagon.
