What tissues make up the hypodermis?
The hypodermis, also called the subcutaneous tissue or superficial fascia, is primarily composed of connective tissue, along with fat cells (adipocytes) forming a layer of fatty tissue known as the adipose tissue or subcutis. The connective tissue framework of the hypodermis consists of collagen fibers, elastic fibers, and ground substance, which contains fluid and specialized cells such as fibroblasts and macrophages. Additionally, the hypodermis may also contain larger blood vessels, hair follicles, sweat glands, and nerve endings.
