What is fecal disimpaction?
Fecal disimpaction is the removal of hardened stool that is impacted in the rectum or colon. It is a common problem in people who are constipated, and it can be very uncomfortable and even painful. Fecal disimpaction can be done in a number of ways, including:
* Digital disimpaction: This involves using a gloved finger to break up and remove the impacted stool.
* Enemas: These are fluids that are inserted into the rectum to help soften and dislodge the stool.
* Laxatives: These are medications that can help to soften the stool and make it easier to pass.
* Surgery: In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the impacted stool.
Fecal disimpaction can be a very uncomfortable experience, but it is usually not a serious medical problem. If you are constipated and have not had a bowel movement in more than three days, you should see your doctor to rule out fecal impaction.
