What Can I Bring to Drug & Alcohol Rehab?

If you are addicted to either drugs or alcohol, you may eventually have to be admitted in to a rehabilitation clinic to overcome your addiction. At a typical facility, you will only be able to bring certain items along with you and need to be aware of what can and cannot be taken.
  1. Wallet/Purse Items

    • You are allowed to bring a credit card, personal identification (either a license or passport), between $100 and $200 in cash and either a cashier's or personal check to pay for the drug center's rehabilitation fee. You may also bring a list of medications and dosage instructions for current medications you are taking and a list of family members, doctors and friends who are allowed to contact you.

    Clothing

    • Patients are expected to bring casual clothing that can be layered if necessary, sleepwear, a pair of comfortable sneakers, a pair of hiking boots, swimwear and workout attire. Tank tops and sleeveless shirts are prohibited, with hats and sunglasses allowed only for outdoor activity.

    Toiletries

    • The following toiletries are allowed on the rehabilitation clinic premises: shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, body lotion, mouthwash and sunscreen. The only restrictions on these items is that they must be alcohol free. Candles and incense are also strictly prohibited.

    Electronics

    • The following electronics are allowed to be used and stored while you are staying at the clinic: an alarm clock, CD players, iPods (audio only), cameras and hair dryers. Cameras are allowed only if the patient promises not to violate the privacy of any of the other member. Patients are NOT allowed to bring cell phones, laptops, DVD players or handheld computers.

    Considerations

    • Cigarettes are allowed only if they are brought into the clinic in sealed packages.

Laundry facilities and detergents are available on premises, so you do not have to bring laundry supplies with you. This is to ensure no illegal substances are smuggled into the facility through these means.

Any clothing with drug or alcohol references is strictly prohibited.
