Side Effects of Panadeine

Panadeine is a medication made up of paracetamol and codeine used in the treatment of pain. The medication works by stimulating opioid receptors in the body, which in turn alleviates pain and discomfort in the user. The brand Panadeine is only available for purchase in Australia; however, similar products made up of the same compounds are available in other countries. As is the case with most pain medications, there are a number of side effects associated with use.

  1. Common Side Effects

    • Some of these side effects associated with using Panadeine include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, constipation, stomach pain, headache, muscle pain, general weakness and upset stomach. While these are considered the most common side effects associated with using Panadeine, they only affect a small number of users.

    Severe Side Effects

    • Unfortunately, there are also a number of severe side effects associated with using this medication. Some of these side effects include fever, high blood pressure, allergic reaction, reduced platelet levels in the blood, skin rash, difficulty breathing and hives. These side effects are also rare and do not affect a large amount of users.

    Important Safety Information

    • Panadeine has been known to cause increased dizziness and drowsiness in some users. As a result, it is strongly recommended that users do not operate any type of machinery (including automobiles) while using this medication. It is unknown whether or not this medication will affect an unborn baby, so please consult with a doctor before beginning use with this medication if you are pregnant. Panadeine may negatively interact with other medications, so please consult with your doctor if you are currently taking any other drugs before beginning treatment.

    Use

    • Always use Panadeine in direct conjunction with your doctor's orders and never in dosages larger than what has been recommended on the label. Panadeine is administered in tablet form and should always be taken with food. This medication should also always be taken at the same time every day and should be ingested with a full glass of water to ensure proper digestion of the drug.

    • If you experience any of the above side effects, contact your doctor immediately.

      If an overdose is suspected, contact the poison control center and head directly to the nearest emergency room.

      Panadeine is meant as a pain-management medication only and should never be used recreationally or without a prescription.
