Signs & Symptoms of a Yeast Infection in Women
Yeast is something that is already present in the female vagina, as it is in the mouth or anywhere else on the human body that requires constant moisture. Yeast present in the body is kept in check by protective bacteria. When that bacteria is weakened by antibacterial medication, the yeast can multiply and cause an infection. A yeast infection in females is commonly diagnosed by a physical examination, and it is treated using anti-fungus medication.-
Itching

It is possible for the symptoms often associated with a yeast infection to also be symptoms of other vaginal conditions. The most commonly shared symptom is an itching sensation in the vaginal area. It may be accompanied by a burning sensation that is not satisfied by scratching. As the condition advances the burning and itching may increase in severity. You may also experience anal itching at the same time as vaginal itching.
Discomfort

You may experience general pain in the vaginal area that seems to have no origin, and remains for several hours or even several days. You may also experience severe discomfort while urinating, or while engaging in intercourse. Swelling could make the vaginal region extremely uncomfortable, and this swelling could be accompanied by a red rash and small red or white bumps.
Discharge

It is important to remember that a discharge is not always present when you are experiencing a yeast infection. If you do experience a discharge then it will have the same consistency as cottage cheese but it will be odorless. It may look white in color, or it may have a yellowish tint to it. The different color of the discharge is not always a sign of a yeast infection that is more severe than any other infection. There are a variety of reasons for the different color in discharge. The yellow tint may be due to urine being mixed in with the discharge.
Vulvodynia

Vulvodynia is pain in the vaginal area that appears to have no know area of origin. It is commonly used as a symptom of yeast infections, but it can also be a symptom of other vaginal conditions. It is commonly referred to as a burning sensation or pain in the vaginal area that could be accompanied by a throbbing ache that could go on for hours.
Pregnancy

It is common for women to experience a yeast infection during pregnancy. A yeast infection is not normally a danger to an unborn child, but it is important to report a yeast infection to your doctor as soon as you begin to experience symptoms.
