Cure for Candida Albicans
Candida albicans is a yeast that lives in the mouth, digestive tract and vagina. Candida is normally harmless. When Candida proliferates, it can infect mucous membranes and moist skin including the vagina, penis, underarms and mouth. Proliferation can be caused by humid conditions, tight-fitting clothes, poor hygiene and inflammatory skin diseases. Candida is common in infants and is the cause of diaper rash.-
Antifungals
-
Nystatin is a prescription antifungal medication that comes in tablet, liquid or lozenge form to be taken by mouth, tablet or vaginal cream to be inserted into the vagina, and powder or ointment to be applied to skin. Common side effects of nystatin include itching, irritation and burning.
Ketoconazole is a prescription antifungal medication used to treat fungal infections that can spread through the bloodstream, on the skin and on the nails. Ketoconazole works by slowing the growth of infection-causing fungi. Ketoconazole comes in tablet form and is usually taken once per day. Ketoconazole also comes in a cream/shampoo form for treating skin infections and the fungus that can cause dandruff.
Supplements
-
Caprylic acid is an over-the-counter dietary supplement available in pill or tablet form. Caprylic acid is naturally found in coconuts and breast milk. Common side effects include nausea and diarrhea.
Garlic is a natural antifungal agent and has an inhibitory effect on Candida organisms. The major chemical constituent that is responsible for its therapeutic qualities is called allicin. Garlic can be ingested in clove, powder and pill form. Some companies market an odorless garlic pill, but it is unclear as to how beneficial it is on Candida. Allicin is also responsible for the smell of garlic, so taking it away may reduce the antifungal effect as well.
Friendly Bacteria
-
Friendly bacteria, such as lactobacillus acidophilus, help treat Candida overgrowth in the digestive tract. Antibiotics can kill healthy bacteria along with infection which alters the microbial flora, causing cellular immunity. Replenishing healthy bacteria helps boost the immune system. Lactobacillus can be found in yogurts as well as in pill form. Most health food stores and pharmacies carry lactobacillus.
Essential Fatty Acids
-
Many foods eaten by Americans are high in fat, but only a small amount consists of essential fatty acids (EFAs). Essential fatty acids are responsible for furnishing materials to the body that make hormones, namely prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are made up from oil molecules in the cell membranes. Omega 3 and omega 6 supplements can help replenish essential fatty acids. Primrose oil is a supplement that is also rich in omega 6 fatty acid.
