How to Get Rid of Piles

Hemorrhoids are enlarged and bulging blood vessels that occur in the anus and rectum region. Also referred to as piles, they can be internal or external hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids can be caused from excessive strain during a bowel movement or from pressure during pregnancy. The condition can be both embarrassing and painful.

Instructions

    • 1

Take an over-the-counter medication to treat hemorrhoids. These come in ointments, creams, pads and suppositories. Consult with your doctor on which product would best suit your condition and medical history. According to the Mayo Clinic, unless recommended by your doctor, these medications should not be used longer than a week.

    • 2

Undergo rubber band ligation. This is where the doctor secures a rubber band at the base of an internal hemorrhoid. After circulation is cut off, the hemorrhoid eventually falls off.

    • 3

Inject a chemical into the hemorrhoid to cause it to shrink. According to the Mayo Clinic, this is less painful yet less effective than rubber band ligation. This procedure is done by a physician.

    • 4

Apply infrared heat or laser to the area, known as coagulation. This makes the hemorrhoid harden and shrink. This is done by a doctor.

    • 5

Consider a surgical procedure. In the hemorrhoidectomy the surgeon removes the tissue. In stapling, the procedure blocks the blood flow.
