Discuss the effects of L-Dopa with your doctor. Although many Parkinson's patients have success with this medication, there are some cases where treatment wouldn't be appropriate. If you have a history of heart irregularities, this may not be the best treatment for you.

Start with a low dose. This treatment can have side effects such as hallucinations and psychosis. It's important to start with a low dose so the onset of such side affects won't be drastic.

Have a family member assist with dosing. One of the side effects of this medication is memory loss. Having a family member administer the medication will reduce the chances of taking a double doses.

Keep a log of any changes in your condition. Because some of the side effects can be serious, keep a log of any changes to your condition. These can include nausia, memory loss or exessive axiety. Discuss the log with your doctor.

Weigh the risks with the benefits. As with any medicaiton, L-Dopa does have some risks, such as a possilbe effect on neuronal tissues. But if the mediation helps your condtion, it may be worth the risks.
