How to Recover From Heat Stroke

Heat stroke happens when the body's thermostat is unable to keep the body cool. It's also the most severe of all heat-related illnesses. Some signs of heat stroke are high temperature, dry skin and sometimes seizure or coma in serious cases. Recovery from heat stroke depends on the intensity of the stroke.

Instructions

    • 1

Cool the body down at the first sign of heat stroke. Immerse yourself in a cool water bath if available. Otherwise, spray water on your body or fan it down.

    • 2

Drink fluids that contain electrolytes to help restore salt and sugar that you loose through dehydration.

    • 3

Check your body temperature and ensure that you maintain a normal body temperature. Do not allow the temperature to drop lower than normal as this may result in hypothermia.

    • 4

Allow enough rest for the day, with no athletic activities for the next 24 hours. In serious cases, it can take longer than a day to regain full activity.

    • 5

Continue to monitor the body temperature and continue to drink plenty of fluids until your body regains its normal strength.
