Why is anesthetic not used when a patient has fever?
This is a myth that general anesthetic cannot be used for surgeries in patients with a fever. There are no specific temperature cutoffs for the use of general anesthesia. Anesthesia can safely and effectively be used for patients undergoing surgery while they have a fever. However, the anesthesiologist may take certain precautions and consider the underlying cause of the fever when determining the best approach for the patient's care.
