Under Carpet Mold Symptoms

Carpet is a common area for indoor mold to grow. It is important to be aware of possible symptoms of mold exposure so you can take appropriate action. Some of these health symptoms are detectable in the respiratory, immune and nervous systems. Certain types of pain may also be signs of under-the-carpet mold. Sufferers may even experience emotional and psychological symptoms.

  1. Respiratory System

    • Many of the symptoms related to under-carpet mold may affect the respiratory system of those exposed to the mold. Asthma and asthmatic symptoms are common for those suffering from under-carpet mold exposure. These symptoms may come in the form of asthma attacks, wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing and burning lungs. Sufferers may also experience dry, hacking coughs or may even cough up blood. Multiple sinus-related symptoms may also occur.

    Pain

    • Those afflicted by under-carpet mold exposure may experience pain in various locations in the body. Abdominal pain commonly accompanies exposure to under-carpet mold. Body aches and muscle pains may be signs of exposure. Bladder, kidney and liver pain may also accompany under carpet mold exposure. Some may experience extreme headaches and migraines.

    Emotional and Psychological Problems

    • Not only can under-carpet mold physically affect those exposed, it can also cause emotional and psychological problems as well. Some of the emotional symptoms may include depression, anxiety or dementia. Irritability and mood swings may also occur as a result from under-carpet mold exposure. Feelings of hopelessness and disconnection are common symptoms. Some may experience sudden and extreme personality changes. In severe cases, Alzheimer's-like symptoms may surface in the form of memory loss or learning difficulties.

    Nervous System

    • Under-the-carpet mold may also affect the nervous system in many ways as well. Peripheral nervous system effects may occur, such as numbness in fingers and toes. Sufferers may also experience numbness in the face and limbs. Inadvertent facial movements and extreme jerking may result from mold exposure. In some severe cases, under carpet mold may cause seizures.

    Immune System

    • Many of the symptoms caused by under-carpet mold exposure affect the immune system. Those exposed to under-carpet mold may experience allergic reactions. In some cases extreme allergic reactions, known as anaphylaxis, may occur. Recurring colds may also be a sign of under-carpet mold. Recurring sneezing fits is another symptom. Additionally, sufferers may experience frequent sinus infections, accompanied by overall decreased resistance to infections.
