How to Make Your Own Sterile Saline Solution

A sterile saline solution has many purposes: from cleaning wounds and contact lenses, to even suctioning a tracheostomy, for instance. It is a salt solution with little or no side effects and can be used for something as commonplace as dry nasal passages. Knowing how to make your own ensures you will always have a solution available without having to leave your house or injured one behind.

    • 3

Place 1 cup of tap water and 1/4 tsp. of salt in a different pan and boil for 15 minutes.

    • 4

Allow the water to cool sufficiently for you to pick up the tongs and use them to pick out the jars and the lids.

    • 5

Place the jars on a board and fill them with the boiled saline solution and seal tightly.

    • 6

Allow them to cool, then shake them to ensure the solution is thoroughly mixed.
