Signs and Symptoms of Brisbane and Yamagata Flu

Fever

A high fever is one of the main symptoms of influenza.The Mayo Clinic reports that in adults, body temperature may reach 101 degrees Fahrenheit. Children may experience temperatures from 103 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Chills and sweats may also be present.
Fatigue and Muscle Aches

Extreme fatigue is common with Brisbane and Yamagata influenza. In addition, most people will experience headaches and muscle aches. Muscle aches may occur in the back, legs and arms. Weakness is also a common symptom.
Upper Respiratory Symptoms

Nasal congestion and a runny nose are common flu symptoms. A sore throat also occurs with both Brisbane and Yamagata influenza. Some patients may experience a dry cough as well.
Digestive Symptoms

Some patients may experience vomiting and/or diarrhea. This is especially common in children.

Symptoms of Brisbane and Yamagata influenza typically last between three to five days. According to the Medical University of South Carolina, symptoms of the flu are typically more severe and have a more sudden onset than other respiratory diseases, such as the common cold. Anti-inflammatory and cough medications can be used to lessen the symptoms of the flu. It is important to seek medical attention if the patient experiences high fever, difficulty or pain when breathing, or if they are at risk for complications. Young children, the elderly, patients with compromised immune systems and pregnant women are all at risk for complications.
