Foods to Treat Vertigo

According to the Mayo Clinic, vertigo is a sudden onset of dizziness. It can feel like you are spinning, internally or externally, as if you are on a carousel. There are multiple causes of vertigo, including inner-ear trauma and certain types of migraine headaches. There are different ways of treating vertigo. One method, often used in combination with others, is dietary. By eating certain foods, sufferers of vertigo can relieve some of their symptoms and prevent the future onset of dizziness.
  1. Ginger

    • Multiple studies have shown ginger to be effective in reducing and eliminating nausea caused by dizziness. Ginger supplements are available at most health-food stores, and dried ginger powder and fresh ginger root are available at most grocery stores.

    Citrus Fruits

    • Citrus fruits, including oranges, grapefruits, limes and lemons, all contain high amounts of Vitamin C. The vitamin, a potent antioxidant, has been shown to be effective in treating some forms of vertigo when combined with Glutathione, another antioxidant.

    Garlic, Spinach, Bell Peppers

    • Garlic is high in Vitamin B6, which is an effective treatment for drug-induced vertigo. Spinach and bell peppers also contain high amounts of Vitamin B6.

    Ginkgo Biloba

    • The extract from ginkgo biloba, a tree indigenous to Japan, has been used medicinally to treat vertigo symptoms in those with vestibular receptor impairment. Ginkgo biloba extract is available at many health-food stores, and supplements are available in capsule form at most grocery stores.
