Itchy Scalp Syndrome
Itchy scalp syndrome has recently been recognized as a condition in itself by dermatologists. If there are identifiable changes to the scalp and hair, then the diagnosis is very easy. If there are not, then the diagnosis can be difficult.-
Hair
-
The life stages of hair are thought to be one of the causes of itchy scalp syndrome. Hair's three life stages are the growth phase, the resting phase, and the falling phase. It is thought that a chemical called neuropeptide, which naturally causes itchiness, causes itchy scalp syndrome.
Other causes
-
Itchy scalp syndrome could also be due to irritation of the sensory nerve endings caused by poor circulation in the scalp. Another possible cause of itchy scalp syndrome could be that the patient is allergic to the shampoo and conditioner that she is using.
Women
-
It has been reported that women can also develop itchy scalp syndrome as a side effect of the birth control pills they are using.
Considerations
-
Some experts say that if no direct cause can be found for itchy scalp syndrome than it may be due to extreme anxiety or manic depression.
Prevention/Solution
-
To avoid itchy scalp syndrome, you should stay away from harsh shampoos and very hot water. Regular scalp massages and scalp exercises also help to prevent itchy scalp syndrome.
