How to Get Rid of Fever Caused by Tonsils

A normal temperature for adults is between 97.6°F and 99.6°F. If your fever is caused by infected tonsils, it may be necessary to visit your doctor in order to get antibiotics. However, there are alternative methods you can use at home to reduce a fever caused by tonsillitis.

• Tylenol
• Ibuprofen
• Cool, damp washcloth

  Use an oral thermometer to take your temperature. If it is 100°F or higher, you will need to take steps to lower it.

  Take 1,000 mg of Tylenol.

  Take 400 mg of Ibuprofen 2 hours after taking the Tylenol.

  Alternate these two medications. Take another 1,000 mg of Tylenol 4 hours after the first dose of Tylenol. Additionally, take another 400 mg of Ibuprofen 4 hours after the first dose of Ibuprofen. Keep repeating until your fever is within normal range. You will be taking a dose of medication every two hours by using this method.

  Use a cool, damp washcloth to wet your face and neck. As the water evaporates, your body temperature will lower.
