Home Remedy for Throwing Up
Throwing up either occurs as a symptom of a particular illness or after consuming beverages or food that upset your stomach. Nausea often precedes vomiting, which allows you to empty out those unsettling items from your stomach area. If you experience a case of prolonged and severe vomiting, try the following home remedies to calm and soothe your stomach.-
Honey
-
Honey acts as an effective remedy in treating vomiting, and you can use it in a variety of mixtures to consume a few times daily. Mix 1 teaspoon each of mint juice, lime juice and honey, with 1/2 a teaspoon of ginger juice. You also can add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon or one cinnamon stick to a cup of boiled water and sweeten it with a tablespoon of honey, or sip a glass of honey water.
Heat two roasted cardamoms on a non-stick pan, crush into powder and add 1 teaspoon of honey with the powder (you can also simply put cardamoms, cloves or a cinnamon stick in your mouth). Before going to bed, mix 1 tablespoon each of apple cider vinegar and honey in a glass of water.
Ginger
-
Like honey, the aforementioned ginger works effectively for excessive vomiting. Mix a cup of ginger tea with a small amount of sugar, or mix 1/4 teaspoon of powdered ginger, 1 cup of apple juice and 1/4 cup of water until the ginger dissolves, and add enough ice to form a slushy remedy.
If you have an upset stomach as result of vomiting, drink ginger in the form of ginger ale. Clear beverages like 7-Up and Sprite also will help settle your stomach.
Other Remedies
-
Within 12 hours of vomiting, drink vegetable juices, water and non-acid beverages. After 12 hours, eat solid foods. Avoid heavy and difficult-to-digest food, as well as oily and spicy food.
If excessive alcohol consumption caused you to throw up, eat one or two slices of bread to soak the liquid. If your stomach is upset from throwing up, drink peppermint and chamomile teas. Peppermint soothes your stomach, while chamomile calms your stomach (as do sugar-free peppermint candies).
Mix lime juice with salt, sugar and ice, or cut a lemon in half and pour a small amount of rock salt on one half. Lick the salted half until the juice runs out.
To calm stomach acid and prevent more vomiting, mix 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in an 8 oz. glass of water. Or, consume baking soda in cracker form to reduce nausea and an upset stomach.
