How to Disinfect Non-Washable Toys

When your child is sick, his cuddly stuffed animal transforms into a germ-infested nightmare. Depending on the type of virus or bacteria your child has, these pathogens can survive on the surface of his non-washable toy for up to several days. If you or someone else touches the contaminated toy during this time, the disease can spread. While washable toys can be washed with a disinfecting solution, non-washable toys require special treatment.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the non-washable toys in sealable plastic bags.

    • 2

Seal the bags and place them in the freezer. Any germs that are on the toys will not be able to survive the freezing temperature.

    • 3

Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Rinse your hands and dry them with a clean towel.

    • 4

Remove the toys from the freezer after waiting for at least two days. Let them thaw before giving them back to your child.
