Relationship Between Fibromyalgia & Night Sweats

While night sweats are not universally recognized as a symptom of fibromyalgia, patients do have trouble regulating their body temperature and many report chronic night sweats. Different factors can make night sweats worse for those with the illness.
  1. Compounding Symptoms

    • Other symptoms of fibromyalgia can compound night sweats. Sweats and chills, for example, accompany the symptoms nausea and dizziness.

    Antidepressants

    • Depression is frequently associated with fibromyalgia, and many patients are on antidepressants. Antidepressants and other medications list night sweats as possible side effects.

    Overlapping Conditions

    • It is possible to develop more than one autoimmune disease. Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis both cause fever and are common overlapping conditions of fibromyalgia.

    Infections

    • Night sweats are caused by infections and fever. Those with fibromyalgia are prone to infection and should monitor their health carefully.

    Warning

    • Consult a doctor about persistent night sweats to rule out a serious condition.
