1
Maintain a healthy diet. A poor diet can worsen psoriasis. Design your meals around the food pyramid. Get at least five servings of vegetables and fruits. Eat plenty of leafy green vegetables. Reduce flare-ups by drinking at least eight glasses of water a day.

2
Avoid foods that help trigger flare-ups. Sugar is especially damaging. Eliminate sugars from soft drinks and alcohol--especially red wine. Avoid or cut back on red meat, MSG and spicy foods. Oily foods and junk food also may worsen your condition. And although these are otherwise healthy foods, berries, tomatoes and other acidic foods will cause outbreaks.

Take general care of your health as illness may also cause skin eruptions. Remember that psoriasis is an immune system disorder, so everything you can do to boost your immune system can help. Consider taking vitamin E (which boosts the immune system) and other antioxidants like vitamin C. Zinc is also helpful.

Soak in a warm tub of salt water, using ocean salt if possible. You can get sea salts from online vendors and in most health food stores. Try to get the unscented type. However, you can also go to a pet shop (or any place that sells saltwater fish) and buy the mix that is used in aquariums to generate ocean water conditions. Soak in the tub for at least 30 minutes at a time.
Salt water will sting but you may find it quite soothing.
