Crohns & Colitis Symptoms

Crohn's disease and colitis are both intestinal disorders that occur due to an inflammation of the intestinal lining. Even though they share similar symptoms, they are distinct conditions and can be discerned by the fact that Crohn's disease produces patches of inflammation throughout the intestinal. Inflammation associated with colitis develops in one concentrated area. They are both classified as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), and there is currently no cure for either condition.
  1. Abdominal Cramping

    • Abdominal cramping is a common symptom for both patients of Crohn's disease and colitis. This cramping may occur throughout the intestines or at isolated locations.

    Diarrhea

    • Patients of both IBDs experience diarrhea as a symptom.

    Abnormal Bleeding

    • Individuals who suffer from either Crohn's disease or colitis may experience blood in their bowel movements or rectal bleeding as a symptom.

    Weight Loss

    • Due to the inflammation of the intestinal lining, nutrients from food are unable to be properly absorbed. This results in unintentional weight loss and potentially dehydration.

    Fatigue

    • In both Crohn's disease and colitis, individuals may experience abnormal fatigue as a symptom.
