Your exact dose of Cephalexin will depend upon the severity of your condition. A 500 mg dose of Cephalexin will usually be prescribed in twice-daily doses (one in the morning and one in the evening). If you forget to take your dose of Cephalexin, take it as soon as you remember. If you are within 2 hours of the next scheduled dose, then skip that and take your normal dose. (These are general guidelines, however; follow your doctor's exact instructions.)
Do not double up on this medication, as it can cause Cephalexin overdose. Symptoms of Cephalexin overdose include bloody urine, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea. Seek emergency help if you think you have experienced Cephalexin overdose.

Cephalexin is used for the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections, whether it is a common ear infection or lesser known infections such as bacterial endocartitis, cystitis, otitis media, or pharyngitis. Cephalexin is also used to treat skin or soft tissue infections, tonsillitis, osteomyelitis and prostatitis.
Cephalexin is often prescribed to treat upper respiratory infections, as well as other strains of bacterial infections that occur in adults and children.
Reactions

Cephalexin is associated with various side effects which can be potentially dangerous. Seek emergency medical care if you experience difficulty breathing, breaking out in hives, oral swelling (including the face, lips, tongue or throat).
Let your doctor know if you experience side effects such as diarrhea, watery or bloody bowel movements, fever, sore throat or flu-like symptoms, confusion or feeling weak, less than usual urination or easy bruising or bleeding.
Interactions

Certain medical conditions and medicines can cause Cephalexin to become less effective, or cause reactions to be more severe. Do not take Cephalexin without consulting your doctor, particularly if you are taking blood thinners, or are taking drugs called Metformin or Probenecid.
Avoid

Do not use Cephalexin if you are allergic to certain antibiotics including cefaclor, cefadroxil, cefdinir, cefditoren, cefixime, cefprozil, ceftazidime or cefuroxime. Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease before taking this medication.
Take this medication for the entire duration of the prescription, as it needs to remain in your system for a period of time, even if you feel well. Do not stop taking your dosage of Cephalexin until your prescription has run out. Avoid storing this medication in heat or direct sunlight.
