Nystatin Side Effects

Nystatin is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of fungal infections relating to the mouth. It is classified as an antif-ungal, and like most prescription medications, side effects can occur while taking Nystatin.

    • Common side effects of Nyastin include stomach upset, vomiting, irritation of the mouth, diarrhea and nausea. Let your doctor know If these side effects get worse with time, or do not go away.

    Serious Side Effects

    • Serious side effects are relatively uncommon, but still possible with Nystatin. Emergency medical attention is needed in such cases. The most serious side effects of the medication are allergic reactions, with symptoms such as chest tightness; swelling of the face, tongue, lips or mouth); itchin;, rash problems with breathing; and hives.

    Rare and Serious Side Effects

    • There are some extremely rare yet serious side effects of Nystatin as well. These include muscle pain, rapid heartbea and wheezing. You should seek emergency medical assistance if you notice that you are having any of these potentially dangerous symptoms.

    Caution

    • When considering Nystatin, it is very important to exercise caution and inform your physician of your entire medical condition, especially regarding kidney disease, diabetes and HIV.

    Overdose

    • If you suspect that you might have overdosed on Nystatin, you should immediately seek medical assistance. Some symptoms of Nystatin overdose are upset stomach, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
