Alternative MRSA Treatment

MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and is an infection that is resistant to the typical antibiotic treatments prescribed for killing staph infections. It is easily transferred to others and can be caught in settings such as weight rooms where you can come in contact with the body fluids of people who are affected. It causes severe soft tissue damage and, if left untreated, can be fatal.
  1. Symptoms

    • According to the Mayo Clinic, MRSA presents itself "as small red bumps that resemble pimples, boils or spider bites. These can quickly turn into deep, painful abscesses that require surgical draining. Sometimes the bacteria remain confined to the skin. But they can also penetrate into the body, causing potentially life-threatening infections in bones, joints, surgical wounds, the bloodstream, heart valves and lungs."

    Baking soda

    • Mix baking soda with water until it forms a paste. Place the paste on a Band-Aid and cover the boil with it. Change as the boil drains or twice a day. If the boil drains, wash the wound and repeat. This will begin the healing process and prevent the boil from getting to an unmanageable and painful size.

    Turmeric

    • Mix 1 tsp of turmeric with warm water and drink it. You may add whatever other substance will make it palatable. Alternately you can take turmeric capsules 3 to 4 times per day. This doesn't work as quickly, but it works. You also can mix 1 tsp of turmeric with Neosporin, which can be purchased at a drug store, and put it directly on the wound.

    Precautions

    • MRSA is highly infectious. Wash with a different towel each time you wash. Wear cotton clothing as sweat can spread it; cotton absorbs sweat, whereas fabrics such as rayon do not. Wash your hands regularly because you can leave MRSA on surfaces of things you touch, thereby spreading the disease.
