Effects of Levaquin

Levaquin (Levofloxacin) is an antibiotic used to treat several, hard-to-treat bacterial infections. It's a broad-spectrum antibiotic, so it is prescribed in diseases such as urinary tract infections and even anthrax poisoning. Levaquin is a powerful antibiotic and normally used in extreme infection or in cases of antibiotic resistance.

    • There are several types of antibiotics. Levaquin is a fluoroquinolone, which works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria cells, causing them to die.

    Aluminum and Magnesium Interaction

    • Taking Levaquin while taking aluminum or magnesium supplements interferes with absorption. Take supplements two hours before or two hours after taking Levaquin.

    Stomach Effects

    • Levaquin causes stomach upset and cramping. Loss of appetite is also common while using Levaquin.

    Headaches

    • Levaquin occasionally causes fever and headaches. Agitation is also a common side effect.

    Skin

    • Some allergic reactions to Levaquin include skin rashes and irritation. There may also be swelling and tenderness.
