How to Cure Vestibular Neuronitis

Vestibular neuronitis occurs when the vestibular nerve, located in your inner ear become inflamed. It usually pops up in one ear at a time and is caused by a virus or by conditions that affect the brain, circulatory system and central nervous system. Vertigo, imbalance, vomiting and nausea are the main symptoms of the infection. Some people will recover from it without treatment, but others will need drugs.

      Ask your doctor for a treatment plan to make you more comfortable when coping with vestibular neuronitis. Antihistamines can be used to lessen the impact of severe symptoms.

      Take two types of medications to treat vestibular neuronitis. Medications such as Phenergan, Antivert or Valium can be used to suppress vertigo symptoms. They will also help ease the nausea accompanying the infection.

      Use a short course of a steroid drug such as prednisone to suppress your immune system. This will help you recover faster and more completely from vestibular neuronitis.

      Stay in bed for a few days while battling vestibular neuronitis. It helps to keep your head still the first couple of days of the infection. Your doctor may also tell you to do some balance exercises to control the symptoms.
