Staph Infection's Effect on Bone

A staph infection in the body can spread from its original point of origin to other areas, including the bone. Once it settles in the bone, it becomes known as a condition called osteomyelitis. This condition can be highly uncomfortable and even painful.
  1. Pain

    • A staph infection causes pain in the area where it's located in the bone. This pain ranges from fairly minor to quite severe.

    Swelling

    • The bone where the staph infection settles often feels swollen to the touch. It causes the muscles and tendons surrounding the bone to swell.

    Tenderness

    • The bone with the staph infection also feels tender to the touch. This tenderness worsens if the condition isn't treated properly.

    Heat

    • A small number of people with a bone staph infection feel heat in their bones, especially in the joints. This heat or warmth tends to feel uncomfortable more than painful.

    Aches

    • Aches are the most common thing associated with staph infections of the bone. The individual usually feels achy all over and unwell without knowing why.
