Symptoms of a Prostate Infection

There are four different types of prostate infections, and studies have found that up to 8% of all men have experienced one of the four at some point in their life. They are usually caused by bacteria that make their way into the prostate through the urine. Such infections are treatable.
  1. Urination Symptoms

    • Men with a prostate infection often experience painful urination. They may also feel the need to urinate more often and feel as though they can't wait to use the bathroom.

    General Pains

    • Prostate infections present with general pains all over the body. In particular, the man may feel pains or aches in his joints or muscles.

    Lower Back and Penis Pain

    • Pain in the lower back and penis are common with a prostate infection. The pain often worsens when the patient moves around.

    Sexual Problems

    • Those with a prostate infection may feel pain when they have sex or ejaculate and may have problems getting or maintaining an erection.

    Fever

    • A low-grade fever is common with prostate infections, but it's sometimes too low for the man to even notice. If the condition is left untreated, the fever usually rises.
