How to Prevent a Fatal MRSA Infection
-
1
Practice good hygiene at all times. MRSA is almost always caused by touching a person or item that has the bacteria on it. This can be a surface like a table or doorknob, sheets, clothes, towels, or a person. Hand washing will help prevent the spread of the disease.
-
2
Keep public areas clean, especially where bodily fluids might be present. Locker rooms, bathrooms, and changing rooms are all places that MRSA is likely to be found. Be diligent when cleaning these areas.
-
3
Keep any open wounds or sores covered. When the bacteria enter an open wound, the infection is more likely to turn fatal.
-
4
Allow no sharing of personal items, including clothes and makeup. Wash sports equipment after each use if it is used by more than one player on a team.
-
5
Keep alcohol based hand sanitizer in public places whenever possible. Use it frequently, and encourage those around you to do the same. These sanitizers are excellent at killing bacteria before it can enter the body.
