What causes paratyphoid fever?
Paratyphoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by *Salmonella enterica* serotypes Paratyphi A, Paratyphi B, and Paratyphi C. These bacteria are closely related to the bacteria that cause typhoid fever, but they cause a milder illness.
Paratyphoid fever is spread through contact with contaminated food or water. The bacteria can also be spread through contact with an infected person or carrier.
Symptoms of paratyphoid fever include:
* Fever
* Headache
* Muscle aches
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Diarrhea
* Abdominal pain
* Loss of appetite
* Rash
Paratyphoid fever is usually a self-limited illness, but it can be fatal in some cases. Treatment for paratyphoid fever includes antibiotics and supportive care.
