How do immunization work to prevent infectious disease?

Immunization:

- Introduces weakened or killed forms of a pathogen

- Encourages the production of memory cells specific to that pathogen.

When vaccinated individuals encounter the natural pathogen later:

- Memory cells rapidly recognize it

- Produce antibodies, activating immune response and eliminating the pathogen

- Prevent the onset of infectious disease or lessen its severity.
