How long has it been since someone got the bubonic plague?

There are still very rare cases of the bubonic plague; the World Health Organization (WHO) reports an average of 1,000 cases a year. The most recent major bubonic plague outbreak occurred in Madagascar in 2017, with over 2,000 infected cases and over 200 deaths.
