What causes cellulitis infection?

Cellulitis is a common skin infection that is caused by bacteria. The bacteria can enter the skin through a break in the skin, such as a cut or scratch. Once the bacteria are in the skin, they can multiply and spread, causing inflammation and infection.

The most common bacteria that cause cellulitis are:

* Streptococcus pneumoniae

* Staphylococcus aureus

* Haemophilus influenzae

Other bacteria that can cause cellulitis include:

* Pseudomonas aeruginosa

* Escherichia coli

* Enterococcus faecalis

Cellulitis can occur anywhere on the body, but it is most common on the legs, arms, and face. It is also more common in people with certain risk factors, such as:

* Diabetes

* Obesity

* Immunodeficiency

* Poor circulation

* Lymphedema

* Skin injuries, such as cuts or scratches

Cellulitis is typically treated with antibiotics. In some cases, hospitalization may be necessary.
