Is salmonella transmitted person to person?

In most cases, Salmonella is transmitted by consumption of contaminated food. However, it can also be transmitted through direct contact with infected people or animals, or by contact with surfaces, such as countertops, that are contaminated with Salmonella. Transmission from person to person can occur through the fecal-oral route, which means that the bacteria are passed from the feces of an infected person to the mouth of another person.
