Can you get scabies without coming into contact with someone who has it?

Scabies are contagious and can be spread through direct skin-to-skin contact with someone who has the mites. It can also be spread through contact with shared items, such as clothing, bedding, and towels. However, it's unlikely to get scabies from casual contact like holding hands.
