Treatment for Hookworms

Hookworms are intestinal parasites that can cause serious problems in humans if left untreated. These worms get into the intestinal tract and latch themselves onto the intestinal walls. From there, they siphon blood and food from their host, which can cause severe health complications. The most common symptoms of a hookworm infection are stomach pains, vomiting, nausea, fever, headaches, diarrhea and reduced appetite. You should immediately consult a doctor if you exhibit any of these symptoms, as hookworms can even cause anemia.

Instructions

    • 1

Take iron supplements every day. This will reduce any anemia you have developed or help prevent you from becoming anemic.

    • 2

Eat more protein in your daily diet. This will also help prevent anemia.

    • 3

Consult a doctor and ask for albendazole, mebendazole or pyrantel pamoate. These drugs are the most effective in combating and eradicating hookworms and are FDA-approved. Always follow the instructions on the medicine bottle regarding how large a dose should be and how often you should take the medicine.
