1
Drain the pus from your infected injury by soaking it in warm water. If the injury is on an area of your body that makes this impractical, try using a wet, warm washcloth. Do this for about 20 minutes several times per day.

2
Dry the area gently with a clean cloth. When not soaking the area, keep it wrapped in a dry, clean bandage after applying an antibiotic cream. This will help prevent anyone else from contracting the infection. Never reuse a bandage, cloth or washcloth. Discard all used bandages and thoroughly wash any cloths. Dry them in your clothes dryer. This will also prevent the spread of infection.

3
Take an over-the-counter medication to help relieve any pain you experience. Pain relievers include ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Never take more medication than the recommended dose.
-
4
Refrain from sharing personal items to prevent others from becoming infected. These include towels, clothing, athletic equipment, razors, bed sheets and any other personal items. Staph infections can spread through both direct contact with the infected area, as well as on contaminated objects. Wash your hands frequently.
