How to Get Rid of Bad Bacteria

Although not all bacteria are bad, the unbeneficial type can be deadly. The worst of these bacteria -- E. coli, MRSA and Acinetobacter baumannii (causes severe pneumonia) -- aren't the only dangerous ones. Other common but bad bacteria infect areas of the body causing odor, diarrhea and other symptoms. Getting rid of common bacteria is possible with antibiotics and other remedies.

Instructions

    • 1

See a doctor to diagnose the bacteria. You cannot get rid of the bad bacteria without first determining what type of bacteria you have. Sometime a virus could be the culprit behind your illness, making any bacterial treatment ineffective.

    • 2

Take your antibiotics as prescribed. Many people stop the antibiotics when they feel better. However, the bacteria is still alive and can come back to infect the body. This rebound is also hazardous because many bacteria develop an immunity to the antibiotic, becoming a resistant strain that can spread to other parts of the body and become more severe.

    • 3

Brush your tongue and drink lot of fluids. Bad bacteria that infect the mouth cause bad breathe or halitosis. The condition worsens with dry mouth. Brush and even scrape your tongue to get rid of the bacteria. Drink lots of fluids.

    • 4

Get vaccinated against the worst bacteria before catching them. Your doctor has access to vaccines against certain strains of pneumonia. These vaccines only protect against the specific strains, but these are the most common ones. They reduce your chances of becoming infected by the bacteria.
