If a person is taking the depo shot and gets period before next due but does not get will ovulation occur?

Depo-Provera injection is a hormonal contraceptive method. It uses the hormone progestin, which prevents the ovaries from releasing eggs (ovulation). It also stops sperm from reaching the egg by thickening cervical mucus. Depo-Provera is given as an injection, usually once every 3 months.

You may experience some changes to your menstrual cycle while using Depo-Provera. Some women stop having their periods altogether, while others experience irregular bleeding or spotting. If you get your period before the next scheduled injection, it is possible that ovulation could occur. However, this is not likely, as the progestin in Depo-Provera is very effective at preventing ovulation.

If you are concerned about ovulation, you can talk to your doctor about taking a pregnancy test or using a different method of contraception.
