What is a micro preemie?

A micro preemie is a baby born before 28 weeks of gestation. These babies are extremely premature and have a very low birth weight. They are at a high risk of health problems, including respiratory distress syndrome, brain damage, and developmental disabilities. Micro preemies often require special care in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
