How does a pregnant belly work?
Here are some of the changes that occur in the belly during pregnancy:
* First trimester: During the first trimester, the uterus is still relatively small and the baby is still developing its organs. The belly may not be noticeable at all, or it may only be slightly distended.
* Second trimester: The uterus begins to grow more rapidly during the second trimester, as the baby grows larger and begins to put on weight. The belly will become more noticeable and the mother may start to show.
* Third trimester: The uterus continues to grow rapidly during the third trimester, as the baby continues to grow and mature. The belly will become very large and the mother may have difficulty moving around.
In addition to the growth of the uterus, there are also a number of other changes that occur in the belly during pregnancy. These include:
* Skin changes: The skin on the belly may become stretched and thin, and it may develop stretch marks.
* Linea nigra: A dark line may appear down the center of the belly.
* Umbilical hernia: The navel may bulge outward.
* Varicose veins: Veins in the legs and feet may become enlarged and twisted.
* Constipation: The intestines may become constipated, causing the belly to feel bloated.
* Hemorrhoids: The veins in the rectum may become enlarged and swollen, causing hemorrhoids.
All of these changes are normal and are part of the process of pregnancy. After the baby is born, the belly will gradually return to its normal size.
