How do you know when ovulated?
There are a few different ways to tell when you have ovulated. One way is to track your basal body temperature. Your basal body temperature is the lowest temperature your body reaches during sleep. It usually drops slightly in the days leading up to ovulation, and then rises after ovulation. You can also track your cervical mucus. Cervical mucus is the fluid that is produced by the cervix. It changes in consistency and amount throughout your menstrual cycle. Around the time of ovulation, cervical mucus becomes clear and stretchy, like egg whites. Ovulation usually occurs 12-24 hours after you see this type of cervical mucus. Ovulation predictor kits can also be used to estimate the time of ovulation. These kits test your urine for an increase in luteinizing hormone (LH), which is a hormone that triggers ovulation. When ovulation predictor kits detect an LH surge, you will ovulate within 24-36 hours. Finally, you can also use an ultrasound to visualize ovulation. This is the most accurate way to determine when ovulation has occurred. An ultrasound can be performed by your doctor or a fertility specialist.
