There are usually about 100 million sperm in a single ejaculation, and only one of them needs to fertilize an egg. When a man ejaculates, the semen is expelled from the penis and into the vagina. The woman's cervix is then sealed off, preventing any more sperm from entering.

The sperm that are not able to fertilize the egg will eventually die and be reabsorbed by the body.
