Pan Colitis Symptoms

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that affects the interior lining of the colon (large intestine) and continuous stretches of the colon. There are five different types of Ulcerative colitis which are categorized by the precise location and severity of the inflammation.
They include Ulcerative proctitis, Proctosigmoiditis, Left-sided colitis, Pan Colitis and Fulminant colitis. The exact symptoms of each tend to vary according to the extent of disease and amount of inflammation.

• Pan Colitis (also known as universal colitis) refers to inflammation that disturbs the right and left colon, transverse colon and rectum.

Time Frame of Symptoms

• Patients with Pan Colitis generally undergo periods of acute symptoms and illness followed by various periods of remission; however the severity or state of the disease by and large stays the same.

Effects

• Since Pan Colitis affects the whole colon, people with the condition experience bouts of bloody diarrhea that can range in duration and severity.

Digestive Tract

• Pan Colitis may result in inflammation of the digestive tract, causing abdominal pain and discomfort.

Additional Indicators

• Excessive sweating (especially at night) fever, fatigue and weight loss are additional symptoms of Pan Colitis.

Features

• A number of patients who have Pan Colitis experience a low-grade inflammation of the colon with symptoms that can be effectively treated by medications. However, cases of Pan Colitis are considered to be harder to treat than the limited forms of ulcerative colitis.
